I don't know why this product is getting bad reviews when it is such a great program. The previous package I used to use was microsoft office 2000 for pc. That was a good program but this one is simply easy to find your way round. I haven't had any problems with it crashing as other reviewers have said or anything else of that matter. I love the new interface, it makes it easier to find stuff you need. I would recommend it to users who actually need to use the program.
Bought this for my 18month-old MacBook as iWork hasn't quite cut it for me in all areas. Installation was an absolute breeze, and load times are just a smidgin longer than in Windows - so much faster than Office 2004 for Macs!
The funny ribbon thing at the top is also a hell of a lot easier to understand and use than the Windows version, didn't take me very long to adapt.
Add to all this that it's faster to use, much lovelier to look at, more compatible, AND entourage has had a great new look and built-in stuff, for £90 this is an absolute steal!
Needed a version of Office for the Mac - this fills the wish. Most of the functionality as for PC, and 3 licence home/student version good value
just got my first macbook and was looking for smooth transition from pc. this product helps.
I would like to say that this software is much better than 2004 and so far i have not found any problems with it. It loads very fast and hasn't crashed once yet.
I am a dual MAC and PC users. generally I use the MAC for play and photography and the PC for work and to use those software programmes which are not dual platform - I mean not MAC friendly.
I have used Microsoft Office from its first incarnation and nothing touches it for its ability and power and its worldwide recognision. I have used the MAC programmes but whilst I like them they are somewhat more basic then I like. So I saw this and bought it, even after reading the awful reviews from some reviewers.
My view, it does exactly what I want it to do, I can easily send Excel and Word files to my PC with no platform problems and as yet I can't fault it. The big plus for me is that it has Entourage so I can down load my Outlook emails and MAC emails at the same time and it has Messenger.
There are a few things I would have liked in the programme and these are firstly, that Messenger was as powerful as the Microsoft PC version. The MAC version has no video and no shared files facility so if I want to send a file or start a video with a mate I have to swap platforms. That seems rather short sighted by Microsoft but maybe its their way to get you to use PCs rather then MACs.
One other thing that you do need to know. Do not try to load the software on to several machines over and above the number of licences you have. I had that problem with an earlier version of this software which came with 3 licences. Great, unless your daughter, like mine, loads the software and uses the same licence I used. Microsoft then freeze the use of that programme on that computer and even removing the programme will not resolve the issue. I had to remove the programme and the cookies in the MacBook then use Time Machine and go back a week an reload from there. Takes about 4 hours!!!
Anyway I suppose thats my problem not Microsoft.
This full version also comes with Microsoft Server Support. Thats not really explained on the programee but in effect even with a Mac attached to a PC server, on the basis that that server has Microsoft Server Exchange, which comes with Server 2000 software then you can exchange diaries with others. That may not sound like too much of an advantage but since I use a Goldmine CRM system which already allows this - but at a very high cost - I can now choose to use Microsoft Office instead and save funds. Great in this credit crunch.
All in all a great bit of software and please I hope that software developers soon catch up and write more great programmes for the MAC. I reckon, even though this is a Microsoft piece of software rather then Apple that it is still the best bit of Office software out there.
EDIT:28/10/09 I have bought a new Mac, and can say that this is not suitable yet for anyone using Snow Leopard, it simply will not install Entourage and needs some updates from Apple, until these are completely done I would be cautious, and check usergroups before you buy. Some might think its strange to use a Microsoft product on a Mac, but for those who find the rather unique MS features invaluable, and are more comfortable using the suite will be pleasantly surprised at the seamless transition that they have managed to pull off. I am using a Macbook running Mac OS X (Leopard)Mac OS X Leopard (1-User) (Mac)and was rather nervous about the capability of my Macbook to cope with the behemoth that is any Microsoft product. I had a full version of Office for Mac 2004, and was looking forward to upgrading to the new version, as it has significant changes to the whole Office suite. It includes all the usual programs you would expect, Entourage (MS's version of Outlook for Mac), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and of course it's slightly disappointing edition of Messenger for Mac too. It installed without too much difficulty, though took much longer though than I had thought it would, taking a full 6 hours. However I did have a lot of data for it to manage; It managed everything in Entourage well, though managed to completely change my 'rules' and I am now ploughing through the confusing mess. Everything else though is... and I say this rather surprisingly, bearing in mind I am a big Mac fan... brilliant.
So... do I recommend it? Definitely, if you are a Mac user who wants the comfortable interface that is MS office.
i've just made the move from pc to mac. my only big concern was compatibility, but i am happy to say that i have been surprised at how easy and compatible my mac and its software have proved. this is largely due to this product, office 08 for mac. a different interface from the pc 2007 version i also use, which adds 5 mins per piece of work the first few times you use it. But pretty soon, its just as usable, and has opened up all my previous pc based work to my new mac world... i am a very happy customer/ user!
After buying my Macbook Pro 13', I downloaded the trial editions of both Office 2008 and iWork before purchasing one, and here are the reasons why I decided to go for Microsoft Office: 1.) Having just learned all the ropes for Microsoft Office 2003 before I switched to a macbook pro, I didn't really want to take the time to learn iWork. 2.) As a student, Microsoft Office's notebook view in Word is unlike anything iWork had. 3.) Although iWork seemed simpler, I found that it was much easier to perform simple tasks with Microsoft Office.
So far I haven't come up with any compatibility issues, and the programs are great. No crashes or malfunctions. I guess the true test will come this month when I start university, and file sharing becomes more of an every day event! I would definitely recommend this product to those who aren't ready to learn iWork, and want to stick with the familiar Microsoft Office interface. Like I said, I upgraded from Office 2003 so I can't say how this compares to Office 2010 or newer versions, but it sure beats 2003 by a long shot! There's nothing that I'm really missing in the interface of the programs, so they fit my needs perfectly.
I had been worried about getting this product because I have read that people had difficulties with it. I have found it to be great - no problems at all and although a bit more like Pages than Word in parts - still much easier to use. I also downloaded it with no problems at all.
